Culture and Entertainment

Prague is rich in cultural activities. You can visit many interesting places and events, where you will learn more about Czech and Central European culture:

The National Theatre is the most impressive stage in the Czech Republic. It is one of the symbols of Czech national identity. It is a bearer of national cultural heritage and at the same time an arena for free artistic creativity. The theatre is a living artistic organisation which understands its tradition as imposing a duty to constantly find new interpretations and to achieve the highest artistic quality. Estates Theatre (Stavovské divadlo) was built in 1783 and it is one of the finest examples of (neo-)classicism. Renamed the Tyl Theatre after WWII in honour of the 19th century Czech playwriter Josef Kajetán Tyl, its name reverted to Stavovské divadlo in 1990s. Tyls musical comedy „Fidlovačka“, which had its premiere here in 1834, is well known to Czech people because one of its songs became later the Czech national anthem. However, the most famous premiere in the Estates Theater was the premiere of Mozart`s opera „Don Giovanni“ on 29 October 1787.

Rudolfinum is one of the most famous concert halls in Prague – it is the seat of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (ceskafilharmonie.cz). The neo-renaissance building was built during the years of 1876 – 1884. In front of the Rudolfinum you can find a statue of Antonín Dvořák, a famous Czech composer.
